HALO - "Silence and Light"

As part of the international programme marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of Louis I. Kahn, the HALO Collective presents its new performance, “Silence and Light”, created by choreographer Teet Kask and musician Kristjan Kannukene. The performance brings together music, movement, light and architecture into a unified spatial experience in which the historic environment becomes an active participant. Niguliste Museum-Church in Tallinn and Kuressaare Episcopal Castle in Saaremaa are not merely venues but dramaturgical partners whose space, acoustics and light shape both the course of the performance and the audience’s experience.

The title of the performance is derived from one of the most important philosophical concepts of the world-renowned architect Louis I. Kahn – “Silence and Light” – which was also the title of his famous lecture delivered at ETH Zurich in 1969. For Kahn, silence did not mean the absence of sound. Silence was the original state of creation – potential, idea and possibility before manifestation. Light, in turn, represented becoming visible, form, presence and realization. In his view, all creation emerges from the meeting of silence and light.
